Spyker Cars introduced its prototype C8 Aileron sports cars last year and has fine-tuned the vehicle up to production trim just in time for the 2009 Geneva Motor Show.

Under the hood is an Audi 4.2-liter V8 with 400 horsepower and 354 pound-feet of torque, allowing for a 4.5-second 0-60-mph time and a top speed of 187 mph. The engine can be mated to either a six-speed Getrag manual or a ZF automatic transmission. AP Racing supplies the brakes, and a front and rear independent double-wishbone suspension system made of mostly forged aluminum is standard on the Aileron.

World debut for the production version of the Spyker C8 Aileron at the Salon International de l'Automobile in Geneva

Zeewolde, the Netherlands , 3 March 2009 - Spyker Cars, manufacturer of exclusive premium sports cars since 2000, today proudly introduces the production version of its all-new second-generation sports car: the Spyker C8 Aileron, the prototype of which was shown at Geneva in 2008.

Victor R. Muller, Spyker Cars' founder and Chief Executive Officer said on the occasion of the unveiling: “When we unveiled the C8 Aileron prototype here last year, we wanted to make a clear statement to the industry that Spyker was about to take the next step in its short but intense history, by introducing its second-generation sports cars, developed from scratch. Within a year we transformed that prototype into the production-ready car we show here today. The first cars are being built now with customer production and deliveries starting in May 2009.

The C8 Aileron's design is heavily inspired by Spyker's aviation heritage, as was the case with all previous models, but with a clear emphasis on the second-generation aircraft propulsion: the turbine rather than the propeller that adorned so many elements of the first-generation cars. Similarly the “Aileron” name pays tribute to that aviation heritage.

It is the device that makes an aircraft turn and symbolizes the turning point that the Aileron is for Spyker: the car which will turn the company towards long-awaited profitability.”

SPYKER C8 AILERON: A COMPLETELY NEW CAR All-Aluminium Space frame Chassis

The Spyker C8 Aileron's all-aluminium space frame was completely redesigned from scratch with the
objective to increase torsional rigidity and to incorporate an all-new suspension system. These
characteristics provide an ideal foundation for enhanced vehicle dynamics.

Moreover, the C8 Aileron's dimensions have been optimised for more interior space and to
accommodate the optional automatic gearbox. Compared to the short wheelbase of the firstgeneration
cars - the Spyker C8 Laviolette and C8 Spyder - the wheelbase of the C8 Aileron is 150 mm
longer, also providing for more driving comfort and stability at high speeds. Its front track has
increased by 155 mm. The total dimensions of the front and rear track are now 1625 mm and 1645
mm respectively, which improves road handling significantly.

Spyker has put tremendous efforts in the space frame performance of the C8 Aileron, specifically the
structure's efficiency. The utilisation of modern finite element and numerical optimization methods has
allowed Spyker's engineers to arrive at an exceptionally stiff structure of 22.000Nm/degree. Rigidnode
and load-path technology has been employed in order to ensure that the minimum amount of
aluminium is used to achieve this performance, thus reducing the overall weight of the vehicle. The
dynamic stiffness characteristics of the structure have been carefully tuned in order to minimize
unwanted cabin noises and vibrations, which may otherwise detract from the driving experience.
These technologies and measures have allowed Spyker to arrive at the most efficient chassis in its
history.

Design

The design of the hand-crafted Spyker C8 Aileron represents the latest evolution of Spyker's signature
architecture, which is prominently inspired by the company's aviation heritage. In the first-generation
cars, the propeller design was consistently applied to many elements of the cars. Within the design of
the new Spyker C8 Aileron, the emphasis was shifted from the propeller propulsion to the turbine
propulsion. As a result, for instance, the bright polished air inlets were converted into turbine-engineshaped
air scoops.

In order to enhance the aerodynamic performance of the car, several changes in styling were made,
such as stretching the canopy backwards. Most of the shark-like gills have been abandoned, which
results in a cleaner, smoother appearance. The front end is now characterised by a larger grille that
gives additional cooling. Also the rear diffuser was redesigned for improved functionality. An extra
spoiler has been placed under the diffuser, providing additional downforce to boost the ground effect
produced by the diffuser.

Sometimes practicality gains over design: the split side windows with the characteristic metal frame
have been replaced by single-pane side windows that are fully retractable, improving driving comfort.
The outside mirrors, standard in body colour, were redesigned and the mirror body is mounted on two
turbine fan blades.

The rear lights are made of LEDs (light-emitting diodes). LED lights were also used for the indicators
and the sidelights in the redesigned headlight units. The style of the headlights is particularly eyecatching as they follow the body design more closely. This characteristic styling can be defined as a part of the (future) Spyker identity first seen on the Spyker C12 Laturbie and subsequently in the
Spyker D8 Peking-to-Paris. In fact, the latter will use the identical headlight units to those of the
Aileron.

The C8 Aileron is available in 16 standard colours, but customers may choose any colour they wish as
an option, as well as the Spyker Squadron GT2 colour scheme. The standard colours have been
developed by Sikkens Autolakken Nederland and AkzoNobel Car Refinishes. Spyker selected these
companies because of their high quality standards and their flexibility to meet with special
requirements. Some of the standard colours have been created especially for the C8 Aileron.

Power train

The Spyker C8 Aileron will use the Audi 4.2 litre V8 engine, giving 400 bhp and will be available with
two transmission alternatives. The first one is a 6-speed Getrag manual gearbox, with ratios perfectly
matched to the V8 engine. This is joined by a ZF 6-speed automatic gearbox, which comes standard
with paddle shifts behind the steering wheel, to progress smoothly through the ratios. Both
transmissions retain Spyker's trademark exposed gear change mechanism.

Interior

Thanks to the longer chassis, the Spyker C8 Aileron has more interior space, which results in a higher
comfort level and improved ergonomics. The interior, with its typical attention to detail, is made of the
highest quality leather, from the Litano range of the Dutch Royal Tannery Hulshof. The leather interior
is available in 14 standard colours, but any other colour – if desired by the customer – can be ordered
as an option.

Driver and passenger sit low, close to the car's centre of gravity, where they can feel the car reacting
to the input of the driver, for a direct and sporting connection between car and driver.

The dashboard was completely redesigned to suit the new Spyker identity and to improve ergonomics
and functionality. Air vents are designed in turbine style and the performance and distribution of the
air conditioning was improved significantly. A multifunctional LCD display is integrated between the
speedometer and the odometer. The middle console accommodates the standard Kharma sound
system (see In-Car Entertainment). Chronoswiss dials and switches are available as an option.
More space was created around the Spyker characteristic floor-mounted pedal box. The impression of
professional functionality and ergonomic styling is enhanced by the optimised positioning of the door
handle and the hand-brake lever.

In-Car Entertainment

With larger numbers of cars going into the market and the increased popularity of the iPod and similar
products, the demand for a standard sound system fitted by the factory increased. As a result, every
Spyker C8 Aileron will be equipped as standard with a Kharma sound system, incorporating a digital
radio, Bluetooth interface, an iPod connectivity and a navigation system. The Kharma sound system
offers joystick controls on the central console and a dashboard display, paired to 6 Kharma
loudspeakers. It can be extended with two optional audio packages.

The presence of a Kharma sound system in the Spyker C8 Aileron marks Kharma's debut in the world
of automotive entertainment. Kharma International produces high-end audio products and sells
worldwide through a network of highly qualified distributors and dealers. All sound systems are
developed, assembled and tested in the Netherlands , with the utmost care by a team of highly
engaged specialists. These characteristics of high-quality products and exclusiveness are in line with
Spyker's brand values craftsmanship and exclusivity.

Suspension & Wheels

The C8 Aileron is fitted with a brand-new front and rear independent double-wishbone suspension
system. The new suspension system includes a new kinematic layout of the front and rear suspension, front and rear stabilizer bars, mono-tube dampers, coil over damper steel springs, anti-dive and antisquat setup for improved handling properties. The suspension components are made of forged
aluminium where possible, to keep the vehicle's unsprung weight as low as possible. Shock absorbers
are now placed vertically within the wishbones.

The Aeroblade™ wheels of the first-generation cars are replaced by newly-designed 19-inch alloy
wheels. New 10-blade, 19-inch directional rotor wheels, branded Rotorblade™, are available as an
option. These wheels are inspired by the turbine blades of a jet engine, which hints the new styling
direction while respecting the aviation heritage. The 235/35 size tyres at the front and up to 295/30 at
the rear provide the necessary road holding.

Brakes

Brakes are supplied by AP Racing, a partner from day one. Black brake calipers with Spyker script are standard. Colour-coded calipers with Spyker script can be ordered as an option. Carbon ceramic
brakes will be available as an option soon.

BMW ALPINA B3 BITURBO

For over thirty years now, ALPINA have been creating exclusive automobiles based on the BMW 3 series, automobiles that aim to fulfill only the very highest demands. In the beginning of this continuing success story spanning over 6,000 units was the legendary 1978 BMW ALPINA B6 2.8 - revolutionary in its day due to its six cylinder engine.

This success story is continued in a most prominent fashion by the BMW ALPINA B3 Bi-Turbo.

Enjoyment, great attention to detail and a unique driving experience come together, creating a synergy of elegance and driving dynamics.

The B3 Bi-Turbo line up presents itself in an hitherto unparalleled diversity, comprising a Saloon, Touring, Coupé and Convertible. See for yourself!

Powertrain

The straight-six cylinder petrol powerplant manages to accommodate torque and power in a compact, nimble and efficient package like no other car in its segment.

400Nm (294lb-ft) of torque from 1300rpm onwards, peaking between 3800rpm and 5000rpm at 500Nm (368lb-ft), provide plenty of punch and elasticity, rocket-like launching the B3 Bi-Turbo from standstill if required, or sovereignly navigating traffic at the touch of your foot.

The omnipresence of Its sporty character means the engine revs freely, accompanied by a wonderful soundtrack, to a maximum 7000rpm, offering up 360hp (265kW) along the way between 5500rpm - 6000rpm.

The use of extremely durable MAHLE pistons allows for a maximum boost of 1.1 bar with 9.4:1 compression. The result, a peak specific output of 121hp (89kW) per litre and a maximum average pressure of 21 bar.

BMW ALPINA automobiles have always been known for their excellent blend of fuel economy and performance. The allure of the B3 Bi-Turbo is found in its V8-like performance coupled with the advantages of a much lighter and noticeably thriftier 3.0 litre straight-six.

A glance at the technical data confirms that the B3 Bi-Turbo ist best-in-class, leading its segment in terms of performance, consumption and CO2 emissions!

Chassis & Suspension

The light, agile and easy handling of the B3 Bi-Turbo is immediately noticeable.

An ideal 50:50 front/rear axle weight distribution in combination with a carefully chosen blend of suspension components make for a great overall chassis set-up, which is equally engaging and comfortable. Stiffer rear axle suspension mounts, for example, increase steering precision and feedback, especially noticeable during fast lane changes.

Low profile conventional tyres which forego Run Flat technology in favour of comfort in combination with light weight alloy 18" or 19" ALPINA wheels ensure that unsprung mass is kept to a minimum.

Design

The intense driving experience and the immediate bonding with the B3 Bi-Turbo are markedly influenced by fine materials and superior ergonomics. The standard leather interior features comfortable sport seats with excellent lateral support and electric adjustment.

The SWITCH-TRONIC sports leather steering wheel covered in finest ALPINA LAVALINA leather is a joy to touch and affords a clear view of the ALPINA typical blue instruments with their red pointers. As demanded by any enthusiastic driver, the provision of essential oil temperature information is provided by an analog instrument located below the rev counter.

Finely honed front and rear spoilers reduce aerodynamic lift, especially approaching top speed, increasing straight-line stability and helping guarantee true driving safety, not just a feeling of safety.

As tradition holds, each automobile is fitted with an ALPINA plaque identifying its unique production number.

B7 BITURBO

With the new BMW ALPINA B7 Bi-Turbo, ALPINA presents its fourth generation of automobiles based on the BMW 7 Series. Prominent predecessors include the BMW ALPINA B12 6.0 and B7, which raised the bar in the high-performance luxury saloon segment. Newly interpreted and in every way state-of-the-art, the B7 Bi-Turbo unites exclusiveness, athleticism and comfort in perfect harmony.

Yielding exquisite levels of torque and power from the charged 4.4 litre V8, and in conjunction with the electronically-adjustable suspension with active roll stabilisation, the B7 Bi-Turbo promises to offer a spectrum of driving experiences so varied as to be unheard of in this class of automobiles.

The evolution of the traditional 20-spoke 21” ALPINA CLASSIC wheels underline the fresh design language found throughout the B7 Bi-Turbo and impart it a distinctive appearance and powerful stance.

Powertrain

The Bi-Turbo model designation that now graces this flagship BMW ALPINA saloon hints at even more powerful and torque-laden performance over its predecessor, while simultaneously improving upon fuel economy.

The fully-aluminium, 4395 cm3 V8 aggregate yields 507 peak horsepower (373 kW) at a moderate 5500rpm, with a maximum torque of 700 Nm available between 3000-4750rpm.

Two especially for the ALPINA powerplant constructed turbochargers with generously-dimensioned turbine vanes are responsible for the forced induction. Thorough exploitation of the engine's potential was achieved by means of optimising the indirect intercooler (air-water/water-air) with its short intake paths and flow-optimised intercooler tracts.

High-performance pistons are at work in the cylinders, carefully developed to harmonise with a compression of 9.2:1 and a maximum turbo boost of 1.0 bar. The result is a formidable specific output of 115hp (85kW) per litre, with a maximum average compression of 20.1 bar, a benchmark even amongst established sportscars.

One look at the torque and power diagram is enough to highlight that the B7 Bi-Turbo will accelerate fiercely and effortlessly from very low revs. Peak torque is available from an unusually broad range of rpm's, ranging from 3,000 to 4,750 rpm. This wide powerband coupled with the exquisitely geared ZF six-speed automatic sport transmission pampers the occupants with remarkably high levels of smooth drivetrain comfort in every driving situation.

The ALPINA SWITCH-TRONIC, which has been programmed to shift exceptionally smooth and comfortable in Automatic mode, offers different shift characteristics for every taste and situation thanks to the additional Sport and Manual modes. Driving the B7 Bi-Turbo becomes an altogether different experience when using the buttons found on the back of the steering wheel for manually selecting the gears of the automatic transmission. This ensures shifts take place within a few hundred milliseconds and with only minimal interruption to the transmission of power, favourably comparable even to the best twin-clutch transmissions. As a result, the B7 Bi-Turbo sprints from 0-100 km/h in 4.7 seconds, vehemently pressing on to an electronically-limited 280 km/h top speed.

Chassis & Suspension

Long gone are the days when a purely “hard and sporty” ride was a sought-after attribute of suspension set-ups. Striving for truly neutral handling continues to be the intelligent way forward, yielding the best of what is technologically feasible.

In pursuit of this goal, marginally shorter and uniquely calibrated springs reduce front and rear ride height by 15mm and 10mm respectively. Together with the 21” wheel and tyre combination the suspension is at once sensitive to inputs and direct in its feel, yet free from the harshness of a purely sports-oriented suspension, imparting this large saloon with an agility usually only associated with much smaller sports saloons. The light-weight 21” wheels, with their new interpretation of the ALPINA CLASSIC wheel design, are shod with an especially selected staggered MICHELIN tyre set-up: 245/35 R21 front and 285/30 R21 rear. Foregoing Run-Flat technology, conventional tyres are used to ensure a supple, comfortable finesse that is rare today.

ALPINA have integrated state-of-the-art electronic suspension technologies, skilfully and subtly adjusting them to the demanding requirements of our customers. As part of the B7 Bi-Turbo standard equipment, the electronic suspension system with Dynamic Damping Control and Dynamic Drive (active roll stabilisation) enable the driver to select from three distinct suspension set-ups: Comfort, Normal and Sport. The B7 Bi-Turbo offers the driver unheard-of versatility, delivering on long-distance comfort just as readily as on back-road pace, always with a maximum of enjoyment and safety.

Design

At once dynamic, graceful and potent - the silhouette of the B7 Bi-Turbo is significantly influenced by the evolutionary new design of the 21” ALPINA CLASSIC wheels. A turbine-like three-dimensional curve guides each of the 20 spokes from the centre of the wheel to the rim, at which point they have a milled surface. Depending on the angle of the viewer, the rotational speed of the wheels and the light, the appearance of these classic wheels is constantly changing. Of course they continue to possess the refined tyre air valves, safely and attractively hidden away behind the lockable wheel covers.

In true “form-follows-function” fashion, the typical ALPINA front integrates the fresh-air requirements of the transmission and engine oil coolers, which are separated out of the main cooler module for improved efficiency. The design of the front and rear spoiler follows clearly aerodynamically-oriented interests, reducing lift at the front and rear by 30% and 15% respectively. Left and right, the exhaust system's two double tailpipes are seamlessly integrated into the rear valance and are witness to the B7 Bi-Turbo's potency.

When climbing into the B7 Bi-Turbo, one immediately takes note of the ALPINA door sill trims which are finely illuminated in blue. The SWITCH-TRONIC steering wheel is gloved and hand-stitched in the finest, most comfortable LAVALINA leather. In the driver's line of sight, red pointers over a field of blue dials grace the instrument cluster, where a Black-Panel LCD screen is responsible for communicating driver-important information.

Exclusive interior luxury wood trim in the form of Myrtle Burl, a knotted burl of the Laurel only found on the Pacific Coast of the United States, provides a warm and traditional ambience. Optional ALPINA Piano Lacquer interior trim with its silver diagonal rhombs, offers a modern and just as exclusive alternative.

A new two-stage torsion damper effectively eliminates vibrations. The AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission has been developed jointly by Mercedes-AMG GmbH and Daimler AG, although it will be used exclusively in AMG high-performance vehicles. It is produced at the Mercedes-Benz Esslingen-Hedelfingen production facility, Europe 's largest manufacturer of planetary gear sets.

Four drive modes for tailor-made driving pleasure

At the heart of the new AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission lies the wet start-up clutch, which runs in an oil bath and replaces the previous torque converter. Thanks to its low rotational inertia, the transmission responds instantaneously and dynamically with no slip. Accelerator pedal movements trigger an instant traction response. Fitted with four drive modes: "C" (Comfort), "S" (Sport), "S+" (Sport plus) and "M" (Manual), the transmission provides gearshifting with no loss of tractive force and supports customised control strategies for maximum driving pleasure. In "C" mode the gearshifts are comfortable, coupled with a "soft" accelerator response set-up for outstandingly smooth power transfer. In "S" mode the engine and transmission interact with more "bite": the engine speed is allowed to reach a higher level in each gear; the downshifts also feel more spontaneous. The gearshifts are around 20 percent faster than in "C" mode. Switching to "S+" mode cuts another 20 percent off shift times, while "M" is the sportiest mode: here the AMG 6.3-litre V8 engine has even more bite, added to which the transmission shifts gear another 10 percent faster - a reduction of 50 percent compared with "C" mode. In "M" mode the gearshifts take just 100 milliseconds.

Ultra-fast, spontaneous multiple downshifts are another forte of the new MCT sports transmission. For instance, kickdown lets you move straight from seventh down to fourth gear or from fifth to second. In the "S" (Sport), "S+" (Sport plus) and "M" (Manual) modes the automatic double-declutching function is active. Every manual or automatic downshift is accompanied by precisely metered double-declutching - from "S" through "S+" to "M" incrementally. And this not only adds to the driver's emotional experience: the virtually load-free downshift minimises load-change reactions, which pays dividends particularly when braking into a bend on the racetrack.

New AMG DRIVE UNIT with innovative Race Start function

The new AMG DRIVE UNIT is the central control unit for the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission and all driving dynamics functions. The driver can change gears either using the new AMG selector lever with its leather/ carbon-fibre finish, or by nudging the AMG steering-wheel shift paddles. On the left next to the selector lever is the electronic rotary switch to select the four drive modes including activation of the new Race Start function. Underneath are three buttons for additional functions: the first controls the ESP function, the second the ABC suspension system. The third adorned with AMG lettering is used to store the selected transmission drive mode and the suspension set-up. Briefly pressing the AMG button brings up the configuration options, while holding down the button allows you to program the required set-ups.

The Race Start function takes driving dynamics to an entirely new level: it enables the Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG driver to call on maximum acceleration, while ensuring optimum traction of the driven wheels. While the vehicle is at a standstill, the driver needs to activate the ESP sports function and press the brake pedal with their left foot. Having preselected the Race Start program using the rotary switch, a confirmation message comes up on the AMG central display. The driver then simply needs to confirm the Race Start function by pulling the "Up" shift paddle once, fully depressing the accelerator and taking their foot off the brakes. The optimum start-up engine speed is set fully automatically and the Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG accelerates away in an instant - as an option even up to the top speed. The driver does not need to shift gear manually; the AMG transmission changes gear with lightning-fast shift times.

AMG 6.3-litre V8 naturally aspirated engine with 386 kW/525 hp

The AMG 6.3-litre V8 engine teams up with the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission to form a perfect partnership for dynamic driving pleasure and outstanding performance. The Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds before quickly going on to a top speed of 250 km/h (electronically limited). The high-revving naturally aspirated engine generates 386 kW/525 hp at 6800 rpm from a displacement of 6208 cubic centimetres, delivering maximum torque of 630 Newton metres at 5200 rpm. The unique combination of high-revving concept and large displacement achieves the best of both worlds: high pulling power at low engine speeds coupled with exhilarating high-revving flexibility - right up to 7200 rpm.

The AMG V8 is packed with a wealth of fascinating racetrack technology, including the lightweight, extra-rigid closed-deck crankcase and cylinder walls with a revolutionary TWAS coating as well as the valve train designed for high engine speeds with bucket tappets in the cylinder heads. The vertical arrangement of the intake and exhaust ports together with the variable intake manifold featuring two integral throttle flaps results in superlative cylinder charging and high power output.

The sophisticated electronically controlled fuel supply provides a consummately spontaneous response to accelerator movements in all driving situation; the

AMG sports exhaust with two oval, chromed twin tailpipes guarantees the characteristic AMG V8 vocals. The tri-metallic coating used in the catalytic converters results in a faster response from a cold start, more efficient emission control as well as superior long-term durability. The Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG fulfils all standard exhaust emissions limits such as EU 4 and the specific requirements of the U.S. market (LEV-II, On-Board Diagnosis II and oxygen sensor diagnosis).

AMG sports suspension based on Active Body Control and 3-stage ESP®

The dynamic drive unit finds its perfect match in the Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG suspension. The AMG sports suspension based on Active Body Control has been further enhanced and not only comes with new spring and damper tuning but also completely modified elastokinematics. The front axle bearings, the spring links and the torque strut along with individual strut bearings at the rear have been retuned to deliver greater agility and shorter stopping distances. In partnership with the optimised speed-sensitive power steering the Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG now feels even more direct and livelier - enabling the driver to fully utilise the linear steering and oversteer/understeer characteristics typical of a sports car, especially on winding roads or a private racetrack. The AMG sports suspension based on Active Body Control also enables the suspension set-up to be customised. At the push of a button, the driver can select a sporty, firm response with reduced roll angles, or go for a comfort-focussed setting for excellent comfort on long journeys.

Also new is the 3-stage ESP® with sports function. This system provides three different settings and is the logical development of the AMG ESP® philosophy. The driver can choose between the settings " ESP ON ", "ESP SPORT" and "ESP OFF" by pressing the ESP button in the AMG DRIVE UNIT - the activated setting is shown in the central display in the AMG instrument cluster.

AMG high-performance braking system and 19-inch AMG light-alloy wheels

The AMG high-performance braking system rises to the exacting requirements associated with consummate driving dynamics. The front wheels are equipped with internally ventilated, perforated 360 x 36-millimetre composite disc brakes with six-piston aluminium fixed callipers, while deceleration at the rear comes courtesy of internally ventilated, perforated 330 x 26-millimetre brake discs with four-piston fixed callipers. The result is the shortest stopping distances, outstanding sensitivity and remarkable resistance to fading.

The 19-inch AMG light-alloy wheels with their alluring triple-spoke styling and titanium grey finish plus high-sheen star on the centre of the wheel are also new. 255/35 R 19 (front) and 285/30 R 19 (rear) tyres are fitted to the 8.5 and 9.5-inch-wide wheels. The 19-inch AMG light-alloy wheels with their striking design blend in harmoniously with the new AMG bodystyling.

New AMG bodystyling ensures clear differentiation

The appearance of the Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG now gives away its exceptional status more than ever before. The new-look front apron with a more pronounced wedge shape, black-painted radiator grille, larger cooling air intakes and lower transverse fin painted in black harmonises perfectly with the redesigned front end of the Mercedes-Benz SL-Class, giving it a decidedly masculine aura. The distinctive AMG bonnet more than hints at the unique power unit underneath. Bi-xenon headlamps with their dark surrounds, and large round fog lamps set well to the side in chrome surrounds also emphasise the vehicle's width. The hot air from the additional engine oil cooler in the front wheel arch escapes through side air outlets in the front apron. New exterior mirrors featuring LED indicators with a pronounced arrow shape catch the eye as do the matt-silver-painted AMG trim panels on the front wings with "6.3 AMG" lettering.

The AMG bodystyling also includes the AMG side skirts and the powerful AMG rear apron with its large black diffusor insert. A visual and acoustic feast comes in the guise of the AMG sports exhaust with two chromed twin tailpipes. The AMG spoiler lip on the boot lid reduces lift especially at high speeds.

Interior featuring new AMG sports steering wheel with three-spoke design

The interior of the new Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG offers an alluring combination of exclusive equipment details and a dynamic, practical look. The eye is drawn to the new AMG ergonomic sports steering wheel with its three-spoke design and aluminium AMG shift paddles. The grip area is specially shaped and covered in perforated leather, while the vertical spoke is embellished by a silver-coloured insert. Behind sits the new AMG instrument cluster with "6.3 V8" lettering on the rev counter and the new-look instrument cluster trimmed in nappa leather with double topstitching above the round gauges. As soon as the ignition is switched on, the speedometer and rev counter needles rotate in unison around the dials to their maximum values and then instantly revert to their original positions.

The AMG main menu integrated in the AMG instrument cluster displays the currently engaged gear including recommended upshifts, the "RACETIMER" with lap times, information on the engine oil temperature and battery voltage, along with the activated transmission drive mode including Race Start and the selected ESP mode. New, exclusive equipment for the Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG with AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission includes the AMG selector lever in a leather/carbon-fibre finish and the stylishly integrated AMG DRIVE UNIT with rotary switch for the four drive modes and buttons for ESP , suspension set-up and the AMG mode.

Standard-fit AMG sports seats with optional AIRSCARF

The standard specification also includes fine nappa leather upholstery, genuine carbon-fibre trim and the multi-way electrically adjustable AMG sports seats with multicontour and memory functions, seat heating, AMG-specific perforation pattern and seat design, and AMG badge. The optional AIRSCARF neck-level heating system is a new addition. At the push of a button, it blows warm air through the head restraints - providing open-air motoring pleasure even if there is a chill in the air.

2009 Mercedes Benz CLS 63 AMG

Mercedes-Benz CLS 63 AMG

Mercedes Benzis making the CLS even more irresistible. This one-of-a-kind four-door coupé - the pioneer of a whole new automotive segment - has now been fine-tuned to give it added appeal. The new entry-level model version, the CLS 280 with its sophisticated V6 power unit, develops 170 kW/231 hp. Meanwhile, the flagship model in the range - the CLS 63 AMG with its 378 kW/514 hp AMG 6.3-litre V8 engine - now comes with 19-inch AMG light-alloy wheels plus a new AMG sports exhaust system.

Understated but masterly neatly sums up the result of the restyling programme for the CLS. At the front, it is the modified radiator grille that stands out, with two louvres now instead of the previous four. The diamond-shaped, three-dimensional grilles painted in atlas grey that cover the air intakes project an even greater air of self-assurance as well as adding further emphasis to the vehicle's width. The exterior mirrors have also been given a new look. The LED side indicator lamps that are built into them are arranged in the form of an arrow to produce a most eye-catching effect, especially in the dark. The mirror surface has furthermore been enlarged by 32 per cent to afford a clearer view of the traffic behind and thereby boost active safety.

The side view is dominated by new, attractively styled light-alloy wheels, measuring either 17 inches (CLS 280, CLS 320 CDI and CLS 350 CGI) or 18 inches (CLS 500) in diameter. When viewed from the rear, the new-generation CLS makes its mark with a new rear apron, new tail lights, as well as modified tailpipes. The centre section of the rear bumper now drops down further, while the additional light-catching contour running along it adds to the impression of breadth. This is further emphasised by the exhaust tailpipes, which are trapezoidal in shape, and not oval as before. LED technology is now deployed for the tail lights: the brake lamps, tail lamps and indicator lamps all make use of the extra-fast-reacting light-emitting diodes. Just like the side indicators in the exterior mirrors, the rear indicators look like arrows when they light up, which is particularly striking in the dark. The same is true of the optical fibres at the side, which are always activated whenever the low-beam headlamps are switched on. A new deactivation function for the low-beam headlamps when the ignition is switched off helps to optimise energy management.

The new bodywork details harmonise perfectly with the multi-award-winning design of the CLS and make the four-door Coupé always look as if it is about to dash off. Almost four years on from its world premiere, the electrifying, muscular lines of the trendsetter are as unique and as unmistakable as ever.

New inside: three-spoke steering wheel and new telematics generation

Great attention to detail was paid while updating the interior too: modifications include a restyled leather steering wheel in a three-spoke design with multifunction buttons, as well as a new-look instrument cluster, whose white dials now contrast distinctly with the chased surface of the backplate. The previous matt laurel colour scheme has been replaced with new chestnut wood trim elements.

The CLS features the new NTG 2.5 telematics generation, whose high-performance componentry combines straightforward operation and logical menu navigation with flawless in-vehicle entertainment. Features include speed-sensitive volume control, a keypad for entering telephone numbers and radio frequencies, an MP3-compatible CD and DVD player, as well as a Bluetooth interface which can establish a wireless connection between a mobile phone and the vehicle's hands-free system.

The Audio 20, Audio 20 CD with CD changer, Audio 50 and Audio 50 APS with DVD changer and LINGUATRONIC voice control system have now been upgraded to a 5-inch colour screen. The COMAND APS comes with a high-resolution

6.5-inch colour display, LINGUATRONIC for audio, navigation and telephone calls, a music register for storing audio files, plus an SD memory card slot.

CLS 280: new entry-level engine variant with 170 kW/231 hp

The CLS 280 is equipped with a new entry-level engine, a sophisticated V6 powerplant with a displacement of 2996 cc developing a peak output of 170 kW/231 hp and a maximum torque of 300 Newton metres. This propels the CLS 280 from standstill to 100 km/h in 7.7 seconds and gives it a top speed of 245 km/h. Combined fuel consumption on the NEDC driving cycle is 9.8 - 10.0 litres per 100 kilometres. The second V6 petrol model in the range is the CLS 350 CGI. Its advanced six-cylinder engine featuring piezoelectric direct injection and spray-guided combustion generates 215 kW/292 hp and returns impressively low fuel consumption figures of 9.1 to 9.3 litres per 100 kilometres (NEDC combined). Under the bonnet of the CLS 500 is a V8 drive unit with a displacement of 5.5 litres and a maximum output of 285 kW/388 hp. What makes the CLS 320 CDI with its 165 kW/224 hp V6 diesel engine especially thrilling is the formidable torque of 540 Newton metres on the one hand and, on the other, low fuel consumption of just 7.6 - 8.1 litres of diesel for every 100 km (NEDC combined).

All CLS models come fitted with the 7G-TRONIC seven-speed automatic transmission as standard. In manual shift mode "M", the driver is able to shift through the gears using shift paddles on the steering wheel if desired. This shortens the 0-100 km/h acceleration time by 0.2 seconds.

CLS 63 AMG flagship model with AMG SPEEDSHIFT PLUS 7G-TRONIC

The flagship model in the CLS range, the CLS 63 AMG, is powered by the AMG 6.3-litre V8 engine with 378 kW/514 hp and 630 Newton metres of torque. The high-revving, naturally aspirated engine now makes its presence known in an even more distinctive fashion: the AMG sports exhaust system's redesigned rear silencers deliver an even more captivating soundtrack through the two sets of oval-shaped, chromed twin tailpipes. The AMG SPEEDSHIFT PLUS 7G-TRONIC transmission now incorporates a function which blips the throttle automatically during downshifts. This does more than just intensify the emotive driving experience - the virtually load-free downshift procedure also leads to a reduction in load-alteration effects, which is of particular benefit when braking ahead of corners on the race track. The CLS 63 AMG accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds, while its top speed is limited electronically to 250 km/h.

Also new is the black-painted radiator grille with two louvres instead of the previous three, which blends in perfectly with the AMG bodystyling. The AMG light-alloy wheels, with their new triple-spoke design and a titanium grey, high-sheen paint finish, now measure 19 inches in size instead of 18 as before, and are shod with tyres measuring 255/35 R 19 at the front and 285/30 R 19 at the rear. Inside, the CLS 63 AMG boasts a new AMG sports steering wheel with a three-spoke design. The grip areas are specially contoured and trimmed in perforated leather. Gear selection can be performed manually by means of two aluminium AMG shift paddles.

Attractive optional extras from AMG

There is an exclusive choice of new optional extras from the AMG Performance Studio for the CLS 63 AMG: take the AMG performance steering wheel, for instance, with a smaller diameter, a rim that is flattened at the bottom and silver-coloured aluminium shift paddles. Or the titanium-grey painted AMG 19-inch light-alloy wheels with a twin-spoke design and a polished finish, which are manufactured using first-rate forging technology.

All CLS models can be embellished by the addition of the AMG bodystyling package: this comprises a prominent front apron with large air intakes, a beefy rear apron featuring a black insert, as well as side skirts. There is also the option of new AMG 19-inch light-alloy wheels in a high-sheen finish with either 255/35 or 285/30 tyres.
